A mutual aid network is a way of connecting the two, building a stronger community as we share our needs and our resources. Together we build and empower community
Birdsboro Shares makes connections in Birdsboro and the surrounding area between neighbors looking for help with a particular need and those with the particular skills to meet that need, facilitating the sharing of resources between neighbors.
From grocery deliveries and rides to doctor appointments to wellness checks and pet care, Birdsboro Shares connects community members that need assistance with volunteers in their neighborhood.
What is a Mutual Aid Network?
A mutual aid network is a community-driven system in which people provide support to one another. Unlike traditional charity, it emphasizes reciprocity. We all have needs and we all have something to offer. In this way, it is collaborative: we work together, helping each other. We believe that Birdsboro is resource-rich and that we are ALL healthier and lead more empowered lives when we actually care for each other.
What kind of aid can I request?
Here are some ways neighbors are showing up for each other:
- Giving and receiving help with groceries, medicine, or other essential supplies
- Transportation for appointments
- Relational connection to combat isolation and loneliness
As the network grows, the possibilities grow with it!
